END OF THE SUMMER HOLLIDAYS
Today is the end of the summer holiday and the end of the school vacation. Children have 2 full month’s of summer vacation here, July and August. Normaly schools start on September 1st but that is a saturday this year so schools start next monday. This marks officially the end of Summer although real Autumn starts on September 21st ofcourse. But as of September 1st everything changes, new tv programation, more traffic on the roads, more people everywhere and all of a sudden life is back to normal. The days are already a lot shorter, the sun lost a lot of it’s power and the garden starts looking tired…

MY GARDEN AT THE MOMENT
What is going on in my garden at the moment ? Not much really. Each day we get more signs that Autumn is coming closer fast. Today was a nice day with a bit of sun and 23 C°, yesterday it was 17 C° and it was raining very very hard, it’s typical for many Belgian Summers, one day this and the next day something completely different.
But, a miracle has happened with my fig tree, remember when I told you back in May that it only had little green buds instead of being in full leaf ? It has grown sooooo much and there are soooo many figs on it too. They won’t get ripe this year but who knows, I see they are rapidly becoming bigger….When ripe they are not big and bold like the exotic figs but small and yellowish green, red on the inside ofcourse.
THIS WAS MY FIG TREE BACK IN MAY
SEE THE LITTLE BUDS ON IT ?
LOOK AT IT NOW !!!!
LOOK AT ALL THE LITTLE FIGS !
So NEVER give up on a fig tree too soon !!! He was this Winter in my garden, unprotected ,and we had temperatures of -18 C° !!! He is standing against a South faced wall though.
IT’S SEDUM TIME ! A CLOSE-UP OF A FLOWER
HERES’ THE SAME SEDUM TOGETHER WITH GERANIUM ROZANNE WHO HAS BEEN BLOOMING SINCE MAY

Have a great day ! And enjoy your garden !
THIS AND THAT
We have been having terribly hot weather ! All of a sudden we had 36 C° and we are not used to that, neither are the plants and tree’s in my garden so they suffered sunburn. It was only for a couple of days, today was a lot cooler, 23 C° and as of Saturday we’ll get real Belgian weather again ; rain and temps below 20 C°.
THIS IS HOW MY GARDENHELPER TRIED TO COOL OFF DURING THE HEATH
I was busy watering my plants, especially the one’s in pots in the garden, this was a job for the evening when it was bearable to come outside. During the day I stayed in the shade and did some repotting of my indoor cacti and succulents, most of them needed a bigger pot. I would have loved going to the beach but everyone wanted to go to the beach so there were long qeue’s on the roads to the coast so we decided to stay at home. I was tempted to jump in the pond though but then I would not ever get out of it again unless someone came with heavy material to lift me up. The slopes of the pond are very slippery .
Today we had our beech hedges trimmed, our garden looks so much better now ! I took some pics to show you.
And a few pics of my outside succulents.
ANOTHER SIGN OF AUTUMN COMMING CLOSER…….
Have a great day ! And enjoy your garden !
A FEW SUMMER DAYS
We have been having some lovely summerweather the last few days, life is so totally different when you can be outside; eat and work and enjoy ofcourse ! But as I said before the first signs of Autumn are there…the days are hot but the nights are rather cold and in the morning everything is wet…
Yesterday we went to a potterie, I took my camera with me to take some pictures for you but there was so much to see that I completely forgot to take pictures, sorry ! But we’ll be definitely go there again ! They had sooooo many beautifull things for the garden like pots, statues and loads of other stuff from all over the world. I bought a lovely big blue pot and I want a yellow lantana to grow in it so it will be bold and beautifull !
The fruit and veg in the greenhouse love the hot weather and everything grows like mad, the tomato’s are starting to colour, finally !!! it needs a lot of watering, also the garden and my potplants need a lot of watering at the moment.
SOME OF THE VEG I GOT FROM THE GREENHOUSE
HERE ARE A FEW SHOTS OF A BUTTERFLY THAT IS QUITE COMMON IN OUR GARDEN, IT IS CALLED “LARGE FOX” BUT I DON’T KNOW IF THE TRANSLATOR GAVE ME THE RIGHT NAME, DOES ANY OF YOU KNOW THE RIGHT ENGLISH NAME FOR THIS BUTTERFLY ?
