Fall is not so spectacular over here as it is in the States but I managed to take a few pics.
THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN 2 WEEKS AGO
AND THIS IS THE SAME REE TODAY, IT’S AN AMELANCHIER
YOU CAN SEE THERE IS STILL A LOT OF GREEN IN MY GARDEN
THE HOSTA IS STARTING TO DIE DOWN, ALWAYS A SAD SIGHT
AND THE MARIGOLDS STILL GIVING LOADS OF BLOOMS, SO FAR WE WERE LUCKY WITH THE WEATHER, NO FROST YET AND WE HAD 22 C° TODAY, THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR OKTOBER OVER HERE ! BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING !!!
Have a great weekend all, thanks for stopping by and enjoy your garden !!!!
Although my garden doesn’t look pretty anymore, there still are some blooms left to enjoy. I already removed the tender plants as the temperatures at night are flirting with 0 C°, I hate that ! I also want to move all my hardy succulents into the greenhouse as we had very wet winters the past 3 years, they can withstand the cold very well but they don’t like the combination of the wet and the cold, a lot of my succulents were damaged last winter, I even lost a few !!! so now want to put them in my greenhouse for overwintering.
A SUNFLOWER IN OKTOBER ? YES, I TOLD YOU BEFORE THAT THE BIRDS DROPPED A FEW SUNFLOWERSEEDS AND A FEW SUNFLOWERS GREW SPONTNEOUSLY, THIS IS THE BIGGEST, IT IS OVER 4 METERS TALL, BUT I’M AFRAID THE SEEDS WON’T RIPEN ENOUGH FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE WEATHER BUT RIGHT NOW SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS ! I FIND IT FASCINATING HOW THEY CAN FOLLOW THE SUN WITH THEIR “FACES”.
GERANIUM ANN THOMSON HAS BEEN BLOOMING SINCE JUNE, WAS DAMAGED BY OUR DOG DURING WINTER AND THERE WAS ONE TINY PLANT LEFT, NOW I HAVE A BIG BUNCH
FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA, ALWAYS A GOOD PERFORMER FROM JUNE TILL THE FIRST FROST, VERY WINTERHARDY, THE BUSH DIES IN WINTER BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS NEW SHOOTS COMMING FROM THE GROUND UP IN SPRING
SOME SORT OF ASTER BUT A REAL BULLY ! I’VE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO REMOVE IT BUT IF A SMALL PIECE OF ROOT BREAKS OFF, YOU GET A NEW PLANT, IT COMES UP EVERYWHERE IN MY GARDEN SO IT SELFSEEDS AS WELL, BUT IT IS A BEAUTY I MUST ADMIT
TRICYRTIS HIRTUS, LOOKS LIKE AN ORCHID, VERY NICE FOR THE AUTUMN GARDEN, I WANT MORE OF THESE !
I BOUGHT SOME YELLOW CHRYSANTHEMUMS AND LITTLE VIOLA’S TO BRIGHTEN MY FRONT DOOR
REMEMBER THIS WHITE BEGONIA ? IT IS STILL BLOOMING NICELY.
ROSA THE PILGRIMM
THE WHITE BLOOMS IN THE TREE IS A RUSSIAN VINE, IT WAS PLANTED TO COVER THE ROOF OF THE AVIARY BUT NOW IT CLIMBS IN OUR OAK TREE ! I LIKE IT !
REMEMBER I TOLD YOU IN SPRING I PLANTED SOME DWARF CONIFERS IN MY FROND GARDEN ? WELL THEY WERE SO TINY THAT I DECIDED TO PUT SOME TAGETES INBETWEEN TO GIVE THE PATCH A BIT OF COLOUR, WELL THE TAGETES IS STILL BLOOMING LIKE MAD !
HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK AT THE DWARF CONIFERS, THEY DID WELL THIS SUMMER AND ADDED A BIT OF GROWTH, I NEVER THOUGHT THE TAGETES WOULD BECOME THIS BIG !
A CLOSE-UP OF MY BIG SUNFLOWER
VERBENA BONARIENSIS STILL IN BLOOM, I LOVE THIS PLANT AND SO DO THE BEE’S AND BUTTERFLIES
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST A FUCHSIA CUTTING, CUTE HEY !
Have a great day all, thanks for stopping by and enjoy your garden !
This is the last episode about our trip to Croatia in September 2012. For many years Croatia suffered from the war in ex-Yougoslavia, the tourists they had before the war choose other countries to visit even though Croatia was not at war. But now it seems the war is forgotten, at least in Croatia, and the tourists are back. It is a lovely country, it has sun and sea, good food, art and history and beauty, what more do you want ?!
Here are a few more pictures.
BEWARE WHEN YOU ASK A STEAK AS IT IS HUGE !!! I FORGOT TO TAKE A BEFORE PICTURE THIS IS AN AFTER DINNER PICTURE.
THIS WORK OF ART WAS TAKEN IN PIRAN, A SMALL BUT BEAUTIFULL TOWN IN SLOVENIA
PLENTY OF BOATS EVERYWHERE, ESPECIALLY SAIL BOATS
WE MET THIS FRIENDLY DOG ON A BOATTRIP WE MADE, A MUZZEL IS A MUST FOR BIG DOGS IN CROATIA, BUT THIS ONE WAS SO FRIENDLY AND CUTE !!!
THE ENTRANCE OF ANOTHER AQUARIUM WE VISITED, I LOVE THE MOSAICS ! THIS AQUARIUM WAS ABOUT LOCAL SEALIFE.
ANOTHER CLOSE- UP
MAP OF ISTRIA WHICH IS WHERE WE STAYED, IT IS PART OF CROATIA
A BEAUTIFULL BLUE LOBSTER
SOME SORT OF EEL
A LOCAL CUTIE
ISN’T SHE OR HE BEAUTIFULL !!?
THESE LARGE TENNISBALL’S IN MOSAIC WERE ALL OVER UMAG, THE PLACE WE WERE VISITING, APPARENTLY UMAG HOSTS YEARLY A WORLDTENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP WHERE ALL THE BEST WORLD TENNISPLAYERS ARE COMPETING
THEY HAVE ONLY ROCKY BEACHES LIKE THIS ONE
This is it for Croatia, I hope you enjoyed it !
Have a great week and enjoy your garden !
THE FRESH FRUIT IN CROATIA WAS DELICIOUS AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF IT, THIS SMALL PRUNE WAS SO SWEET ! PROBABLY BECAUSE THE FRUIT OVER THERE GETS PLENTY OF SUNSHINE; MOST OF THE FRUIT HERE IN BELGIUM IS IMPORTED FROM ABROAD AND PLUCKED WHEN IT IS NOT RIPE, WE OFTEN HAVE TO KEEP IT FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER BUYING IT, COS WHEN WE BUY IT IT IS STIL NOT RIPE ENOUGH TO EAT IT, SO IT NEVER TASTES AS GOOD AS THE FRUIT THEY PLUCK WHEN IT IS READY TO EAT OFCOURSE !
LIKE IN FRANCE THEY HAVE A LOT OF PLATANS, I LOVE THE LOOK OF THAT TRUNK, LOOKS A BIT LIKE A PUZZLE
As I told you before, I always want to go to one or more garden centers whilst on holiday abroad, here are some pictures I took during our visit to a large local garden center. Mind you, it was a bit of a shock to see the prizes, they were huge ! compared to what we pay in Belgium.
FOR THE PRICE OF THIS CONIFER YOU COULD BUY A SMALL CAR !!!!
