The beauty of Kenya has no boundaries, there is beauty everywhere you see. The lodges where you stay overnight and where you eat are absolutely fine, nature, wildlife, people ……

Here are some pictures of the lodges.

MOST LODGES HAVE COTTAGES IN THE GARDEN, THEY ALL HAVE BEAUTIFUL GARDENS, THE GUARDS ALL HAVE WEAPONS AS SOMETIMES DANGEROUS ANIMALS COME IN THE GARDEN, THEY TRY TO SCARE THEM OFF OFCOURSE BUT….

AT FIRST WE SAW ONLY A CLOUD OF DUST, THEN THIS LARGE  GROUP OF BUFFALO’S CAME FOR A DRINK AT THE LODGE

THEY CAME SO CLOSE YOU COULD TOUCH THEM FROM ABOVE IF YOU WANTED TO

MY BEST FRIEND WAS THERE TOO

THE ZEBRA’ S TOO CAME FOR A DRINK, I WHISHED I COULD HAVE STAYED THERE FOR DAYS ON END

AS MY HUSBAND IS BIRD CRAZY HE HAD TO PHOTOGRAPH EVERY SINGLE BIRD WE MET, I THINK WE HAD ABOUT 1800 PICTURES IN THE END !!!

BEAUTIFUL KENYA 1

It is Winter in my part of the world so there is not much to do in the garden, I read garden books, garden magasines and I watch other people’s blogs in order to quench my garden thirst.

Today I want to share the experiences I had while on holiday in Kenya, East-Africa. It is a beautiful country with beautiful nature and beautiful people.

SOMETHING YOU SEE A LOT IN KENIA ARE ELEPHANTS, LOTS AND LOTS OF ELEPHANTS, EATING TREE’S AND SHRUBS, PUSHING TREE’S TO THE GROUND AS IF IT WERE JUST DRY STICKS

ALL THE KIDS HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE AGE OF 15 BUT CLASSES ARE REALLY OVERCROWDED AND THEY HAVE NO BOOKS OR PAPER TO WRITE ON, NO PENS NO NOTHING, SO IF YOU EVER GO ON A HOLIDAY THERE PLEASE TAKE AS MUCH PEN’S AS YOU CAN, THEY’LL LOVE YOU FOR IT ! tHESE ARE THE LUCKY ONE AS THEY HAVE A CLASSROOM BUT MOST OF THE KIDS IN KENIA JUST HAVE A TREE TO SIT UNDER WHEN THEY GET LESSONS

MY HEART BLEEDS

It started snowing again about an hour ago, it is freezing so the snow doesn’t melt, later today they have predicted ice rain and people are told to stay in as road conditions will be extremely dangerous. Luckily it is Sunday so not many people have to go to work. Nature looks lovely ofcourse with a pure white blanket but….no matter how beautiful it looks, it is dangerous and expensive as we all try to stay warm and these days that is really expensive ! But my main concern are my plants and shrubs, when they are bare it is  no problem but the one’s who have leafs look so sad that my heart bleeds when I see them.  But plants are so terribly brave and strong ! Once the freezing temperatures are gone they look like normal again. I’ve taken some pictures of plants who look sad to show you what I mean.

AND THIS IS AN AUCUBA JAPONICA, IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS VERY THIRSTY

I’ll show you new pictures when the big freeze is gone, they expect it will last for at least another forthnight ! How I wish I was a bear and go in hibernation untill Spring !!!

WHITE MAGIC

We have snow at the moment, it is magic but I don’t like it as it brings a lot of problems to everyone and my heart bleeds for my poor plants !

I covered my fig tree, hoping it will help to protect it a bit, last Winter we had some horrible cold Winter and my fig tree suffered a lot, it was not untill mid July that it was covered again in leafs where as after a normal Winter it is covered in leafs in April ! I didn’t get ripe figs either last year, the year before that I got heaps and heaps.

HERE YOU CAN SEE MY FIG TREE ON THE LEFT IN THE BACK,  COVERED WITH SPECIAL CLOTH,I  USED SEVERAL LAYERS OF THE CLOTH, YOU CAN ALSO SEE MY GARDEN TABLE WITH THE PUMPKIN COVERED IN SNOW, THE PUMPKIN IS STILL LOOKING GOOD SO I DIDN’T HAVE THE HEART TO THROW IT AWAY YET

ANOTHER GARDEN TABLE, THE ONE  I USE FOR MY SUCCULENTS BUT THEY ARE IN THE GREENHOUSE NOW, NOT BECAUSE THEY CAN’T STAND THE COLD BUT WE HAVE BEEN HAVING REALLY WET WETHER FOR A LONG TIME AND THE WET IN COMBINATION WITH THE COLD COULD KILL THEM

FOUR LITTLE CUTIES

I want to introduce you to 4 of my cuties. I received some gifts for New Year and I couldn’t find a place for them in my cupboards so I thought ; why not use it as decoration so I had a bit of a think and came up with this ; a decoration for my dining table.

In Spring I am going to repot them but for now I think they are happy, they get lots of light and sun if she shines but that is not very often in Winter here. In Spring I will buy 4 new little plants to fill these little black pots.
