GARDEN UPDATE

We have had about 2 weeks of really hot weather with one or two showers and today a heavy thunderstorm. I took some pictures before the storm, now that the storm is over the garden looks a bit of a mess but they needed the drink. I’ve tried to keep everything alive by watering every evening but they really prefer water from heaven. The forecast is for at least another 2 weeks of really hot weather. I only wish I could have my holiday now but we have it planned for September. But I do try to enjoy the Summer in the mornings and in the evenings, eating outside with a garden view…what more do you want ?!

The flowers have been suffering a bit from sunburn and so did some bushes, so I try to keep them cool and give them a bit of shade with an umbrella or a thin cloth, every little bit helps, but of course all the tropical plants are having a ball now.

The tomatoes are finally starting to get a red colour and the beans are growing and ripening so fast ! I love it ! The salad doesn’t like the hot weather, I keep it in my greenhouse as otherwise the birds will eat it all.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS IS, IT’S A GIFT FROM THE BIRDS, IT IS SO PRETTY AND LACY I HAVEN’ THE HEART TO PULL IT OUT

HERE YOU CAN SEE HOW BIG THE FIGS OF THE FIRST FIG HARVEST IS, THE TINY ONES ARE THE SECOND HARVEST, USUALLY ONLY THE FIRST HARVEST WILL RIPEN ENOUGH TO EAT OVER HERE, A FIG TREE GET’S 3 HARVESTS PER YEAR BUT THEN IT NEEDS A HOT COUNTRY TO LIVE IN, NOT A COLD RAINY COUNTRY LIKE BELGIUM, I GAVE MY FIG TREE A NICE WARM DRESS THIS WINTER AS LAST YEAR IT WAS ALMOST FROZEN TO DEATH, THE WINTERDRESS REALLY MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE !

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE DAHLIA LUCKY NUMBER, THE PICTURE THAT CAME WITH THE BULBS SHOW A DARKER PINK FLOWER, I HATE IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT’S A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE PURPLE

  1. A lovely garden, and your fig tree (as seen in other posts) has a lovely spreading form… it is clearly rewarding you for the winter care you gave it by producing fat figs like that.
I never knew that fig trees produce three harvests (in the right climate) – something to look forward to!

    • I’ve read that the first harvest starts forming before Winter and stay the size of pea’s till Spring and those are the ones that ripen here before Autumn and the first frosts, I was also told that fig tree’s in soil never really freeze completely to death, they start getting new shoots from under the ground, in a pot that will be impossible I think

  2. All your elements of a white garden are so pretty. Your Begonia is fancier than my white which is the plain little waxleaf but a show en masse. My Lantana is the trailing kind, I rooted more. My mother used to grow dahlias that looked like your pink.

I look forward to see ing your cacti update.

  3. It’s rained quite a bit here in Oklahoma – cooled things down very nicely. When the rain stopped the heat returned.
Someday I hope to have a garden as beautiful as yours! Thank you for sharing 🙂

    • Today was nice, not too hot but as of tomorrow the heat will return too.
I’m sure you’ll have a nice garden some day, usually people start with gardening when the kids are too old to play in the garden….Do you have a garden at the moment ?

      • No garden yet – I’m actually waiting to have time to tend to one! My children are old enough to help & not play in one, but we are all just too busy with school. Your garden is lovely to see and gives me something to look forward to – your posts as well as a garden of my own someday 🙂

      • are you a teacher ? thanks for the compliment, my garden still needs a lot of work, and a garden is never finnished, some plants don’t like it in my garden, wrong soil ? too cold ?, too wet ? so I remove them and try something else, and there are always weeds to be pulled !

      • No, I’m not a teacher, I’m a student. The children are growing up and I’m going to need something to do when they leave home! I’m studying journalism.
The gardens I’ve had in the past, I’ve had the same problems as you – many plants don’t seem to like it where I plant them. And the weeds…and bugs…there just isn’t time these days to cultivate a garden. Someday, though! 😀

  4. You have a lovely garden; far nicer than mine. We are supposed to be getting your thunder storms tonight, we could do with the rain – like you we have had two weeks of exceptionally hot weather but I think more rain is forecast for the UK during the coming week.
