ABOUT ME

I am a Belgian female in my fifties, I love gardening with the birds and the bees, the flowers and the tree’s and I have a very soft spot for cacti and succulents. My very first plant as a kid was a small cactus in a 5 cm pot,I thought it was so beautifull, I loved it and I wanted to have more. My mum did not have green fingers, she liked cutting flowers but she wasn’t interested in gardening. But my nan who lived next door to us she loved plants and I loved to be at her place cos of the plants and the many flowers she had. My grandfather grew veggies for the whole family, and in Summer we had to help with the harvest, my cousins and I had a lot of fun doing that.

I try  not to use too much fertiliser and no herbicides or stuff that is dangerous for wildlife, I feed the birds in our garden year round, they can have a bath or a drink in the garden pond as long as they don’t eat my fish.

I have a greenhouse and I like to experiment with all sorts of fruits and veggies.

Alas my husband is not a gardener, he’s a birdlover, at least he thinks he is but I feel sorry for his birds, he breeds them and goes to exhibitions with his birds and keeps them in cages, I feel so sorry for his birds, a bird is made to fly !!! I have been telling him that for over 36 years now but he won’t listen, when will husbands finally listen to their wifes hey !?The world would be a better place !

    • where do I sent the love-hate stuff too ? I had my cast removed last tuesday and at first it felt really sore but now it feels a lot better however I have no strenght in my right arm, I have to go 20 times to physio !

      • Just post it! You can see my post by clicking on the link I had given in it. There’s no compulsion, by the way! keeping your problem in mind. Hope it gets well!

  2. I am pretty bad at helping plants flourish but love to paint the wild birds who frequent them. I also enjoy wandering through gardens and greenhouses of all kinds. It’s such a thrill to watch a hummingbird get nectar, etc. Your passion and mine are connected. I fully agree that birds should not be caged 😦 Happy Gardening to You!

  3. Thank you for following my blog. I’ve never really tried gardening before, but I dream of growing some my own food one day, even if it is just strawberries!

All the best to your blog and garden 🙂

    • There are easier things than strawberries to grow and even on a small windowcill you can grow herbs and veggies in a pot. Have you ever tried an onion in a pot in a bit of soil ? Just take a small pot, a bit of soil and an onion of the supermarket, push it about half an inch in the soil, give it a bit of water and in a few days you’ll see some green “gras” growing, that is lovely with a salad or on an omelet and you’ll be proud of yourself and it will give you courage to try new things, you’d be surprised what you can do with a few seeds ! Thanks for viewing my blog and Happy New Year to you !

      • Please don’t mind but i read your comment on growing onions.
I’ll really try it out. And what more,.. i like experimenting with eggs. It’ll be very helpful.Thank you very much.!!
