I am a Belgian female in my fifties, I love gardening with the birds and the bees, the flowers and the tree’s and I have a very soft spot for cacti and succulents. My very first plant as a kid was a small cactus in a 5 cm pot,I thought it was so beautifull, I loved it and I wanted to have more. My mum did not have green fingers, she liked cutting flowers but she wasn’t interested in gardening. But my nan who lived next door to us she loved plants and I loved to be at her place cos of the plants and the many flowers she had. My grandfather grew veggies for the whole family, and in Summer we had to help with the harvest, my cousins and I had a lot of fun doing that.
I try not to use too much fertiliser and no herbicides or stuff that is dangerous for wildlife, I feed the birds in our garden year round, they can have a bath or a drink in the garden pond as long as they don’t eat my fish.
I have a greenhouse and I like to experiment with all sorts of fruits and veggies.
Alas my husband is not a gardener, he’s a birdlover, at least he thinks he is but I feel sorry for his birds, he breeds them and goes to exhibitions with his birds and keeps them in cages, I feel so sorry for his birds, a bird is made to fly !!! I have been telling him that for over 36 years now but he won’t listen, when will husbands finally listen to their wifes hey !?The world would be a better place !
