A PEEK IN MY GARDEN

Spring was awesome but as soon as Summer started it all went down hill, yesterday was the worst so far, 13 C° !!!! where as 25 is normal for this time of the year over here, we had LOTS of rain and wind, leafs and even small branches were blown off the three’s !!! Today is a lot better, the temps are back in their twenties and the sun is shining through the clouds !

Here are a few recent pictures of my garden.

LATEST GARDEN PICTURES

It is Pentecost weekend over here and that means : long weekend ! The weather forecast was brilliant but…for some people it turned out to be a disaster. Parts of Belgium had severe thunderstorms with hail balls as big and some even bigger as ping-pong balls and they ruined gardens, houses, cars, greenhouses, plants, fruit and vegg(ruined whole crops !!!) and so on. So far we were very lucky we just had rain but the next couple of days and today they are expecting more of the same.

I took a few pictures in my garden for you to see, nothing special, just ordinary pictures.

THIS IS DIANTHUS DELTOIDES OR STONE CARNATION, A TINY (IT IS ENLARGED HERE ON THIS PICTURE) CARNATION FOR THE ROCK GARDEN WITH TINY FLOWERS

ALCHEMILLA MOLLIS OR LADIES MANTLE, A VERY EASY PLANT WHICH SELFSEEDS ALL OVER THE GARDEN, A GOOD GROUNDCOVER

THE GOATS BEARD ( ARUNCUS DIOICUS) IS STARTING TO FLOWER, THIS CLUMP IS GETTING BIGGER EACH YEAR

CLEMATIS ETOILLE VIOLETTE, ONE OF THE EASIEST AND LONGEST FLOWERING CLEMATIS

AUCUBA JAPONICA, AN EVERGREEN SHRUB WITH FRESH GREEN LEAFS AND GOLDEN FRECKLES, IT BRIGHTENS THE WHOLE GARDEN IN WINTER, GETS BRIGHT RED BERRIES IN SPRING

THE BUDS OF THE HYDRANGEA MACROPHYLLA ARE STARTING TO OPEN, AFTER THE SOFT WINTER WE HAD I HAVE SO MUCH MORE BUDS THAN USUAL

Now I am going to work in the garden as the weather is still perfect here and there is lots to do as usual.

SPRING 2014

We are having some really nice Spring weather over here and today I took some pictures in my garden for you to see.

THIS IS CORYLUS AVELLANA CONTORTA WITH BEAUTIFUL CURLY TWIGS AND STEMS

THE TWIGS LOOK VERY NICE IN A FLOWER ARANGEMENT

A COMPOSITION IN A TERRACOTTA POT, SNOW WHITE VIOLA’S AND SOFT PINK BELLIS PERENNIS

MY AMELANCHIER HAS A ZILLION BUDS WHO ARE ABOUT TO OPEN

THIS SMALL NARCISSUS “TETE-A-TETE” IS A GEM IN THE GARDEN, IT RETURNS EVERY YEAR AND SELFSEEDS ALL OVER THE GARDEN

PROMISING BUDS ON THE RHODODENDRON, I PLANTED THIS ONE LAST YEAR, I CAN HARDLY WAIT TILL THE BUDS WILL OPEN, THE COLOUR OF THE FLOWERS SHOULD BE FUCHSIA PINK

THE AUCUBA JAPONICA SHRUBS HAVE BRIGHT RED BERRIES AT THE MOMENT, IT IS SUCH AN EASY SHRUB, EVERGREEN AND THE YELLOW SPECKS MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE THE SUN IS SHINING ALL THE TIME, CAN ALSO BE USED AS A POTPLANT, IT WILL STAY A LOT SMALLER THEN, NEEDS SHADE

There is sooooo much work in the garden and in the greenhouse at the moment, I just don’t know what to do first as it is all urgent cos of the nice weather everything is growing very fast, especially the weeds. Tomorrow we’ll get one last day of sunshine and then we’ll get rain, I welcome the rain as it is dry at the moment but I hope the sun will be back soon ! It is so nice to be able to eat on the terras again and to soak up a bit of sun and enjoy the garden as it is comming to life again.

NEWS FROM MY GARDEN

And here we are at the end of August and you can feel the warmth of the sun is not as it was in July and the days have become quite a bit shorter but the days are beautiful, in a weeks time the children go back to school. We know it is possible to get the first frost in September but it is also possible we get the first frost in November or December. Summer was short but nice, and September can be quite good. We still have our holiday in France to look forward too ! We are going to visit a lot of gardens, I’ll tell you all about it when I’m back, ok ?

Meanwhile in my garden all is well and I made some changes here and there and I am happy with it.

I PLACED A FEW MIRRORS IN THE NEW GARDEN, I AM PLANNING TO GIVE THEM A LIFE FRAME OF SMALL LEAVED IVY

HERE IS THE OTHER MIRROR AND I HAVE ROOM FOR MORE……

THESE BUTTERFLIES ARE CRAZY ABOUT THE BLOOMING SEDUMS AND I HAVE A LOT OF THEM IN THE GARDEN AT THE MOMENT

SEDUM SPECTABILIS

THIS IS ANOTHER SEDUM BUT I DON’T KNOW ITS NAME, IT WAS A GIFT FROM MY NEIGHBOUR

I FINALLY MANAGED TO TAKE A PICTURE OF ONE OF THE MANY FROGS THAT ARE LIVING IN THE GARDEN, THEY DON’T MAKE A LOT OF NOISE, ONLY A SOFT PRRR PRRR AND THEY LOVE OUR POND

THE WHITE LANTANA CAMARA IS ALSO POPULAR AMONGST THE BEES AND BUTTERFLIES

ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLANTS : VERBENA BONARIENSIS, BLOOMS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND GETS A LOT OF VISITORS

DAHLIA AND WHITE ECHINACHEA

MY RESCUED AEONIUM IS THRIVING, IT DIDN’T LOOK GOOD WHEN I BOUGHT IT, I FELT SORRY FOR IT, IT WAS IN A TINY POT AND IT WAS ONLY 2 EURO’S (3 DOLLARS) FOR A BIG PLANT, IT COULDN’T EVEN STAND UP AS THE PLANT WAS FAR TOO HEAVY FOR THE small POT

FUCHSIA MAGELANICA , ONE OF THE EASIEST SHRUBS I KNOW AND VERY WINTERHARDY

CLOSE UP OF THE GARTENMEISTER BONDSTEDT, THESE TYPE OF FUCHSIA’ WITH THE LONG NARROW FLOWERS NEED MORE WARMTH THAN THE OTHER FUCHSIA’S AND THEY LOVE A PLACE IN FULL SUN
