Do you remember my white begonia ?
THIS ONE !
Well, it is not winterhardy in Belgium so I removed the bulb from the pot and what did I see ?
A WHOLE LOT OF THESE GUYS !!!
Does anyone know what these are ? They are about 1 cm long, some a bit bigger others a bit smaller, there were at least 20 or more in the pot ! And look what they did !
THIS IS THE CLEANED BULB, I CLEANED IT UNDER THE TAP SO MOST “MAGGOT’S ?”WERE GONE, THEN I INSPECTED THE BULB AND SAW THAT THERE WERE MORE AND I REMOVED THEM AND THEN I SAW WHAT THEY DID TO THE BULB, LOOK !!!
THEY HAVE EATEN PARTS OF THE BULB !!! I HOPE THE BULB WILL SURVIVE SO I CAN PLANT IT AGAIN IN SPRING, I AM GOING TO LET IT DRY A BIT AND WRAP IT IN A BIT OF NEWSPAPER AND PUT IT IN AN OLD FREEZER TO KEEP IT FROST FREE AND COOL, TOGETHER WITH SOME FUCHSIA’S AND SOME DAHLIA BULBS
When you are gardening you always get surprises, sometimes good sometimes bad, this was a bad one, the plant looked awful but I thought it was cos of the night frosts we recently had.
I’ll tell you in Spring if the bulb survived the Winter or not, I loved this begonia, it has been blooming for a long time and it became more and more beautiful when it became bigger, now this bulb is about 4 times bigger than it was in Spring when I planted it.
Take care and enjoy your garden when you can !!! And thanks for stopping by.
ONE OF MY CLIENTS HAS A GARDEN CENTER AND I SHOWED HIM THE MAGGOTS, HE SAID IT’S VINE WEEVEL, SO NOW I HAVE TO INSPECT ALL MY POTS !!! AND I HAVE MANY !!!
Although my garden doesn’t look pretty anymore, there still are some blooms left to enjoy. I already removed the tender plants as the temperatures at night are flirting with 0 C°, I hate that ! I also want to move all my hardy succulents into the greenhouse as we had very wet winters the past 3 years, they can withstand the cold very well but they don’t like the combination of the wet and the cold, a lot of my succulents were damaged last winter, I even lost a few !!! so now want to put them in my greenhouse for overwintering.
A SUNFLOWER IN OKTOBER ? YES, I TOLD YOU BEFORE THAT THE BIRDS DROPPED A FEW SUNFLOWERSEEDS AND A FEW SUNFLOWERS GREW SPONTNEOUSLY, THIS IS THE BIGGEST, IT IS OVER 4 METERS TALL, BUT I’M AFRAID THE SEEDS WON’T RIPEN ENOUGH FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE WEATHER BUT RIGHT NOW SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS ! I FIND IT FASCINATING HOW THEY CAN FOLLOW THE SUN WITH THEIR “FACES”.
GERANIUM ANN THOMSON HAS BEEN BLOOMING SINCE JUNE, WAS DAMAGED BY OUR DOG DURING WINTER AND THERE WAS ONE TINY PLANT LEFT, NOW I HAVE A BIG BUNCH
FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA, ALWAYS A GOOD PERFORMER FROM JUNE TILL THE FIRST FROST, VERY WINTERHARDY, THE BUSH DIES IN WINTER BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS NEW SHOOTS COMMING FROM THE GROUND UP IN SPRING
SOME SORT OF ASTER BUT A REAL BULLY ! I’VE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO REMOVE IT BUT IF A SMALL PIECE OF ROOT BREAKS OFF, YOU GET A NEW PLANT, IT COMES UP EVERYWHERE IN MY GARDEN SO IT SELFSEEDS AS WELL, BUT IT IS A BEAUTY I MUST ADMIT
TRICYRTIS HIRTUS, LOOKS LIKE AN ORCHID, VERY NICE FOR THE AUTUMN GARDEN, I WANT MORE OF THESE !
I BOUGHT SOME YELLOW CHRYSANTHEMUMS AND LITTLE VIOLA’S TO BRIGHTEN MY FRONT DOOR
REMEMBER THIS WHITE BEGONIA ? IT IS STILL BLOOMING NICELY.
ROSA THE PILGRIMM
THE WHITE BLOOMS IN THE TREE IS A RUSSIAN VINE, IT WAS PLANTED TO COVER THE ROOF OF THE AVIARY BUT NOW IT CLIMBS IN OUR OAK TREE ! I LIKE IT !
REMEMBER I TOLD YOU IN SPRING I PLANTED SOME DWARF CONIFERS IN MY FROND GARDEN ? WELL THEY WERE SO TINY THAT I DECIDED TO PUT SOME TAGETES INBETWEEN TO GIVE THE PATCH A BIT OF COLOUR, WELL THE TAGETES IS STILL BLOOMING LIKE MAD !
HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK AT THE DWARF CONIFERS, THEY DID WELL THIS SUMMER AND ADDED A BIT OF GROWTH, I NEVER THOUGHT THE TAGETES WOULD BECOME THIS BIG !
A CLOSE-UP OF MY BIG SUNFLOWER
VERBENA BONARIENSIS STILL IN BLOOM, I LOVE THIS PLANT AND SO DO THE BEE’S AND BUTTERFLIES
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST A FUCHSIA CUTTING, CUTE HEY !
Have a great day all, thanks for stopping by and enjoy your garden !
Croatia, land of sun, sea and a LOT of rocks ! We loved it !
WE VISITED A MUSEUM OF SEASHELL’S, IT WAS IMPRESSIVE !! THERE ARE SO MANY BEAUTIFULL SHELL’S. YOU CAN FIND SEASHELL’S ON BELGIAN BEACHES TOO OFCOURSE BUT THEY ARE TINY. COULDN’T FIND MANY ON THE BEACH IN CROATIA EITHER. THIS MUSEUM HAD SHELL’S FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.
A BIT OF ART YOU COULD BUY IN THE MUSEUM
MORE ART, I THINK THEY ARE REALLY CUTE, DON’T YOU ?
FRESH FRUIT EVERYWHERE
THE WOMEN MADE SLINGS WITH ALL SORTS OF PEPPERS AND AT THE BOTTOM A SMALL BOTTLE WITH OLIVE OIL, THE PERFECT GIFT FOR TAKING HOME
THERE WERE NOT SO MANY FLOWERS ON THE WINDOWSILL’S NOR IN THE GARDENS, PROBABLY COS THE PLANTS WERE REALLY EXPENSIVE !
I SO WANTED TO BUY THE CACTUS ON THE RIGHT AND THE ONE ON THE LEFT BUT I DIDN’T WANT TO CARRY IT ALL THE WAY ARROUND THE VILLAGE SO I THOUGHT WE GO BACK FOR THEM AFTER OUR VISIT BUT THEN THE SHOP WAS CLOSED !!! THAT’S WHEN WE FOUND OUT THEY HAD SIESTA FROM 12 TILL 15 H !!! BUMMER !!!
WE WENT TO SEE SOME AQUARIUMS, THE YELLOW THINGS ARE SPONGES
STINGRAYS, THEY HAVE SUCH FUNNY FACES !
A NICE MODERN FOUNTAIN
A HOUSE ON A HILL WITH LOTS OF CYPRESSUS
HERE I SPOTTED A LARGE OPUNTIA ON THE TERRACE, THERE WERE NOT MANY CACTI TO BE SEEN, BUT I SAW A FEW OPUNTIA’S

Today we had a very warm day, at least untill mid afternoon, then the sky turned grey and we can expect some heavy rain and thunderstorms. All the other days were cool with sun, clouds, wind and rain once in a while, very unpredictable. It is sooo difficult for us to plan a bbq !We always need a plan B.
Here is the second part of the flowershow pictures. It was a fuchsia show but there were other flowers on display too.
