SNOW DAMAGE

Now that the snow has gone I made a tour arround the garden and I saw that the snow has done quite a bit of damage to some shrubs ,cos it was wet snow it was heavy. Here are some pictures.

THIS IS THE STEM OF MY BUTTERFLY BUSH( buddleia), IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE STRAIGHT UP, IT HAS BEND SO MUCH FORWARD THAT I’LL HAVE TO USE A THICK POLE TO BIND IT WITH SO I CAN GET IT STRAIGHT UP AGAIN

THIS IS TAXUS BACCATA, IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN UPWARD COLUMN, THE BRANCHES ALL  OVER THE PLACE AND ONE HAS BROKEN OFF

A PEEK IN MY GARDEN

Spring was awesome but as soon as Summer started it all went down hill, yesterday was the worst so far, 13 C° !!!! where as 25 is normal for this time of the year over here, we had LOTS of rain and wind, leafs and even small branches were blown off the three’s !!! Today is a lot better, the temps are back in their twenties and the sun  is shining through the clouds !

Here are a few  recent pictures of my garden.

GARDEN UPDATE

We have had about 2 weeks of really hot weather with one or two showers and today a heavy thunderstorm. I took some pictures before the storm, now that the storm is over the garden looks a bit of a mess but they needed the drink. I’ve tried to keep everything alive by watering every evening but they really prefer water from heaven. The forecast is for at least another 2 weeks of really hot weather. I only wish I could have my holiday now but we have it planned for September. But I do try to enjoy the Summer in the mornings and in the evenings, eating outside with a garden view…what more do you want ?!

The flowers have been suffering a bit from sunburn and so did some bushes, so I try to keep them cool and give them a bit of shade with an umbrella or a thin cloth, every little bit helps, but of course all the tropical plants are having a ball now.

The tomatoes are finally starting to get a red colour and the beans are growing and ripening so fast ! I love it ! The salad doesn’t like the hot weather, I keep it in my greenhouse as otherwise the birds will eat it all.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS IS, IT’S A GIFT FROM THE BIRDS, IT IS SO PRETTY AND LACY I HAVEN’ THE HEART TO PULL IT OUT

HERE YOU CAN SEE HOW BIG THE FIGS OF THE FIRST FIG HARVEST IS, THE TINY ONES ARE THE SECOND HARVEST, USUALLY ONLY THE FIRST HARVEST WILL RIPEN ENOUGH TO EAT OVER HERE, A FIG TREE GET’S 3 HARVESTS PER YEAR BUT THEN IT NEEDS A HOT COUNTRY TO LIVE IN, NOT A COLD RAINY COUNTRY LIKE BELGIUM, I GAVE MY FIG TREE A NICE WARM DRESS THIS WINTER AS LAST YEAR IT WAS ALMOST FROZEN TO DEATH, THE WINTERDRESS REALLY MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE !

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE DAHLIA LUCKY NUMBER, THE PICTURE THAT CAME WITH THE BULBS SHOW A DARKER PINK FLOWER, I HATE IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT’S A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE PURPLE

MY LITTLE YELLOW AFRICANS (TAGETES) ARE THRIVING OF COURSE

ANOTHER WHITE FLOWER, LANTANA CAMARA, IT ALSO LIKES THE HEATH

One of these days I’m going to give you an update on my succulents and cacti.

Have a great weekend all and thanks for stopping by ! Enjoy your garden !

RECENT PICTURES OF THE GARDEN.

I haven’t been able to do much recently as I am still recovering from my operation but I was able to take some pics. This weekend we had a few hours of sun and I loved every minute of it, all I could do was sit outside in a comfortable chair and read a book, after that the rain took over again as you can see below.

THIS ONE WAS TAKEN WITH A FLASH SOME EVENING. FOR MANY OF YOU THIS IS JUST A USUAL SIGHT BUT WE ARE NOT USED TO DOWNPOORS LIKE THIS

HERE YOU CAN SEE HOW THE PLANTS ARE DROWNING NEAR THE DRIVEWAY

And then there was light ! The day after we had a few hours on and off with a bit of sun and I took the following pictures.

MY NEW BUTTERFLY BUSH (BUDDLEIA), IN SPRING IT WAS ONE LITTLE BRANCH OF ABOUT 30 CM HIGH AND LOOK AT IT NOW !!!! BEHIND THE BUDDLEIA YOU CAN SEE A BIT OF MY ALBIZZIA, IT’S FULL OF BUDDS SO I’LL BE ABLE TO SHOW YOU THE FLOWERS SOON.

THIS IS ONE OF MY PELARGONIUM SPECIES, IT’S AN OLD PLANT, NOT VERY  BIG, THE LEAFS ARE SMALL BUT IT FLOWERS LIKE MAD

A CLOSE UP OF VERONICA VIRGINICA WHO IS PLANTED NEXT TO THE BUTTERFLYBUSH, THEY GET BIGGER AND MORE BEAUTIFULL EVERY YEAR, IN THE BACKGROUND YOU CAN SEE A BIT OF THE FENCE WE USED ARROUND THE POND TO PROTECT OUR GRANDCHILDREN FROM FALLING IN.

ANOTHER VIEW OF THE VERONICA VIRGINICA

MY FIGTREE THAT SUFFERED SO MUCH THIS WINTER IS STILL NOT IN FULL LEAF, THE END’S OF THE BRANCHES LOOK NORMAL, LIKE YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE PARTS OF THE BRANCHES THAT ARE CLOSER TO THE MAIN BRANCH HAVE BUDS AND LITTLE LEAFS, IT’S A VERY ODD SIGHT, NO FIGS IN SIGHT OFCOURSE BUT THE MAIN THING IS THAT IT SURVIVED OUR HARSH WINTER

SEDUM ALBUM, ONE OF THE EASIEST PLANTS ON EARTH AND BLOOMS FOR A VERY LONG TIME, IT GROWS EVERYWHERE AND SURVIVED OUR -18 C° THIS WINTER

A NEW TAGETES, FOUND A PACKET OF SEEDS IN SOME SHOP, IT IS CALLED TAGETES LEMON, THE FLOWERS ARE ABOUT 10 CM ACROSS, IT’S AN F1 SO I CAN’T COLLECT SEEDS OF IT.

They have promised us a beautifull day tomorrow, then a few rainy days but as of next Monday…..SUMMER !!!! I’ll let you know !

Bye for now, enjoy your garden !!!
