Cos of the storm today I couldn’t take any pictures of the garden but a while ago I promised you an update on my cacti and succulents, the collection I have indoors that is.
THEY HAVE BEEN GROWING NICELY THIS SUMMER
HERE YOU CAN SEE THAT MY PINK PELARGONIUM IS STILL IN BLOOM
I water my collection about once a week with cold water that has been cooked before and they get a little bit of fertiliser just once in Spring or fresh soil, if they get fresh soil they don’t get fertilizer for a year. Each time I water them I inspect them to see if there are no bugs or illnesses and then after watering I give them a new place on another shelve so that they can sit in the sun once in a while and I turn them regularly so they won’t grow crooked. Some of these plants will soon go upstairs for a cooler overwintering ,unheated but frost-free, something they need to produce flowers in Spring or Summer, others need a place arround 20 C° to stay happy.
Have a great week all and enjoy your garden ! Thanks for stopping by, it is much appreciated !
I have found a few new house guests, for some of them I have been looking for a long time, so I am quite pleased with myself !I prefer my house guests to be small to start with and to stay small if possible so I can have many different ones.
AGAVE STRICTA, ISN’T HE CUTE !!! BUT HE IS PRICKLY !!!
SANSEVIERA FERNWOOD MIKADO, QUITE A MOUTHFULL HEY ! AND SHE HAS PUPS!
THIS ONE IS A FICUS ELASTICA ABIDJAN ACCORDING TO THE LABEL BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT IT. IT LOOKS LIKE AN ORDINARY FICUS ELASTICA BUT IT IS SMALLER IN EVERY WAY.
HAWORTHIA ATTENUATA AND IT HAS A PUP !
HAWORTHIA LYMIFOLIA TWIST, IT HAD A PUP GROWING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE POT
THIS ONE IS A MELOCACTUS MATANZANUS, THE RED HAT NEEDS AT LEAST 5 YEARS TO GROW
A while ago I ordered some fuchsia’s from a place called Fuchsia’s Katrien Michiels, they have over 3000 different fuchsia’s and over a 1000 different pelargoniums on top of that they have other Summerflowering flowers and a small range of cacti. I love to go there ! They have a beautiful site on internet with all the pictures of the fuchsia’s and pelargoniums they sell. Yesterday I went to collect what I had ordered and I took some pictures.
A LOOK AT THE PELARGONIUM HOUSE
THESE DARK FLOWERING PELARGONIUMS ARE VERY POPULAR OVER HERE AT THE MOMENT
THESE ARE SPECIAL LEAF PELARGONIUMS
And here are the fuchsia’s. They are not in bloom yet but most of them have buds.
THEY HAVE SEVERAL OF THESE HUGE GREENHOUSES FILLED WITH FUCHSIA’s
EVERY FUCHSIA HAS A NUMBER AND A NAME AND SOME INFO : SUN OR SHADE, WINTERHARDY OR NOT, TRAILING OR STANDING, BIG FLOWER, DUBBLE FLOWER, SMALL FLOWER, COLOUR
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE TAGS
THIS IS A FUCHSIA WITH A VARIEGATED LEAF
BEGONIA’S IN HANGING POTS
And last but not least the cacti !!!
As you can see, they were all big cacti and they were a bit neglected so I guess she’s not a cacti fan but the cacti were beautiful none the less !
I bought 2 new plant racks for my cacti and succulents and personally I love the result and….I can put more plants on the new racks !
Before I had the racks I used these little black tables
Easter weekend was COLD but sunny, we still have frost every night, the pond is still covered under a thick layer of ice and I have no Spring blooms in the garden except for a few tête à tête narcissus I bought in the shop already in bloom, I planted them a few weeks back and they had snow and very low temperatures and they are still looking happy as Larry, they are so incredibly though !!!!!The forcast for the next 2 weeks is about the same, a very cold north-easterly wind and night frosts !! Is this Winter ever going to end ????
I’m in shock really ! They predicted snow for yesterday and we had a lot of snow yesterday but it melted right away, so no problem. This morning I opened my curtains and look what I saw !!!!!
SHOCK !!! HORROR !!!
EVEN MY CACTI ARE IN SHOCK !!! CAN YOU SEE THE LOOK ON THEIR FACES ?
AND LOOK AT MY BRAVE LITTLE DAFFS !!!
I had so many plans for the day, I thought I could work in the greenhouse, do a bit of planting and sowing there and a bit of repotting…..all dawn the drain now !the way to my greenhouse is too dangerous with the snow so I am not going to risk it.
Can anyone tell me when this is going to stop ???? I want SPRING !!!!!!
PS: I just read in the newspaper that it was 60 years ago we had this much snow at the end of March !
