I took some pictures in my garden today, the sun was shining and it looked very much like Spring but it was still very cold cos of the cold wind we had so I did some gardening in my greenhouse where it was lovely and warm.
MARSH MARIGOLD ( CALTHA PALUSTRIS) IN THE SWAMP PART OF THE POND, NORMALLY THEY ARE IN BLOOM IN MARCH
BUDS OF MY AMELANCHIER
THERE ARE MILLIONS OF BUDS ON MY AMELANCHIER TREE, IN A FEW DAYS IT WILL LOOK STUNNING AND ALIVE WITH BEE’S AND BUMBLE BEE’S, THIS ONE IS ALSO ABOUT 4 WEEKS LATER THAN USUAL
SKIMMIA JAPONICA WHITE KEW, IT WAS BUZZING WITH BEE’S BUT THEY WERE SO FAST I COULDN’T GET THEM ON CAMERA AND IT WAS TOO COLD TO BE PATIENT, I LOVE IT WHEN THERE ARE A LOT OF BEE’S IN MY GARDEN, BEE’S ARE IN DECLINE, EVEN IN DANGER OF EXTINCTION OVER HERE SO I TRY TO PLANT SHRUBS, TREE’S AND FLOWERS THEY LIKE TO VISIT AND I WANT TO BUILD A BEE HOTEL IN MY GARDEN SO THEY CAN OVERWINTER THERE AND LAY THEIR EGG’S
A PRETTY DOUBLE DAFFODIL IN THE SHADE
IN THE GREENHOUSE, LETTUCE FOR CUTTING AND SPINACH, COS OF THE LONG COLD WINTER I HAD TO POSTPHONE SEEDING SO THERE IS LOTS TO COME BUT MOST IS SO TINY AND JUST COMING OUT OF THE SOIL, I DID A LOT OF SEEDING LAST WEEK
I BOUGHT THESE TOMATO’S LAST WEEK IN THE GARDENCENTER SO THEY HAVE A GOOD HEAD START, THEY ARE DARK RED EGG SHAPED SPANISH TOMATO’S, I ALSO BOUGHT A RED PAPRIKA PLANT
It is also very very dry, we had some rain last week but it was not nearly enough !
I hope you are all enjoying your gardens ! Have a great week !
At last we have temperatures above 0 C°, even at night ! It is still cold and very wet but it is a dry day so I started working in the garden, I don’t know where to begin as the garden is a real mess at the moment.
The builders made us a new terrace in the garden and new garden path’s but what a mess !!!
I don’t clean up my garden in Autumn either cos it is better for the plants and the birds and other small wildlife that is living in my garden, like frogs and hedgehogs, insects…. But now I am ready to start !!!!
HERE’S A PICTURE OF MY LITTLE VIOLETS WHO DESPITE THE HORRIBLE WINTER WE’VE HAD ARE BLOOMING AGAIN, IN MY EYES IT’S A MIRACLE !
NARCISSUS TETE A TETE, I CHEATED A BIT, I BOUGHT THESE IN THE SHOP WHERE THEY WERE ALREADY IN BLOOM
THIS IS HOW FAR MY NARCISSUS ARE, IN BUD
MY SNOWDROPS ARE THE ONLY FLOWERS IN BLOOM AT THE MOMENT, WHEN I WAS WORKING IN THE GARDEN TODAY I SAW THEY HAVE SEEDED THEMSELVES HERE AND THERE, I LIKE THAT !
I also started to put my succulents in pots outside again, they spent Winter in my greenhouse and they look really well, last year they were almost death cos of all the cold and wet we had, they can stand the cold but not the wet.
We had snow and artic temperatures this week, even during the day ! Although we get signs Spring is getting closer. Normally my Amelanchier is in bloom the 1st of April but not this year, the buds are becomming bigger but they have to become a lot bigger before it’ll start blooming, first you get the flowers and together you can see tiny leafs unfolding and by the time the flowers fade (after about 10 days) the leafs are all there. Whilst in bloom it is covered with buzzing bee’s and bumblebee’s having a ball ! Soon after the flowers the tiney fruits are there, at first green, later red and then the birds are having a ball feasting on the ripe berries.
HERE YOU CAN SEE THE BUDS, THEY ARE BIGGER THAN IN WINTER BUT THEY HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE THEY’LL BE BIG ENOUGH TO BLOOM
As there is nothing I can do outside I started to repot my cacti and succulents in the house, the sun is shining and the light is bright so my cacti and succulents love it after a long grey and dark Winter, and some show signs of growth.
Have a great day and enjoy your garden if you can ! Thanks for stopping by !
