It’s official, we just had the wettest Summer ever on record !!!! and it shows in the garden, there is not much that survived elegantly and Autumn has been here for a few weeks now, but I am not complaining. There is still a lot of beauty in the garden.

Here are a few pictures I took today and earlier this week.

STILL IN BLOOM

There is not much happening in the garden at the moment, we have had an awful lot of heavy rain and storm winds lately so everything is flattened and the garden looks horrible and sad, but for some reason I have a sunflower in bloom and it is still standing up as if nothing happened, it is a gift from the birds as I never planted it.

YOU CAN SEE IT IS WET WET WET

And on the windowsill my pelargoniums are still in full bloom and making new buds, they are a bit protected from the rain ofcourse but it is already the second week of November !, not that I am complaining !

20130911bloemen 091

I DID TRY TO CUT ONE FLOWERSTALK TO USE IN A SMALL VASE BUT THEY DON’T LAST LONG AS CUT FLOWER SO I AM NOT GOING TO DO THAT ANYMORE, OUTSIDE THEY BLOOM FOR A LONG TIME

20130911bloemen 092

YOU CAN SEE THE NEW BUDS HERE, I DO NOT HAVE THE HEART TO CUT THE FLOWERS OFF AND MAKE THE PLANT SMALLER FOR OVERWINTERING

We are still having “warm” weather, about 12 to 16 C° and there are still a lot of leaves on the trees that’s why a lot of tree’s got blown down lately during the heavy stormwinds. The forcast for the next 2 weeks are more of the same, too warm for the time of the year, a lot of rain and wind and no frost in sight, I don’t mind cos it gives me more time to put my pots in for overwintering, I like to leave them outside for as long as I can.

Have a great day all and thanks for stopping by, it is much appreciated ! Take care of your gardens and of yourselves ofcourse and enjoy yourselves as much as you can !

STIL IN BLOOM IN MY GARDEN

Although my garden doesn’t look pretty anymore, there still are some blooms left to enjoy. I already removed the tender plants as the temperatures at night are flirting with 0 C°, I hate that ! I also want to move all my hardy succulents into the greenhouse as we had very wet winters the past 3 years, they can withstand the cold very well but they don’t like the combination of the wet and the cold, a lot of my succulents were damaged last winter, I even lost a few !!! so  now want to put them in my greenhouse for overwintering.

A SUNFLOWER IN OKTOBER ? YES, I TOLD YOU BEFORE THAT THE BIRDS DROPPED A FEW SUNFLOWERSEEDS AND A FEW SUNFLOWERS GREW SPONTNEOUSLY, THIS IS THE BIGGEST, IT IS OVER 4 METERS TALL,  BUT I’M AFRAID THE SEEDS WON’T RIPEN ENOUGH FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE WEATHER BUT RIGHT NOW SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS ! I  FIND IT FASCINATING HOW THEY CAN FOLLOW THE SUN WITH THEIR “FACES”.

GERANIUM ANN THOMSON HAS BEEN BLOOMING SINCE JUNE, WAS DAMAGED BY OUR DOG DURING WINTER AND THERE WAS ONE TINY PLANT LEFT, NOW I HAVE A BIG BUNCH

FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA, ALWAYS A GOOD PERFORMER FROM JUNE TILL THE FIRST FROST, VERY WINTERHARDY, THE BUSH DIES IN WINTER BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS NEW SHOOTS COMMING FROM THE GROUND UP IN SPRING

SOME SORT OF ASTER BUT A REAL BULLY ! I’VE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO REMOVE IT BUT IF A SMALL PIECE OF ROOT BREAKS OFF, YOU GET A NEW PLANT, IT COMES UP EVERYWHERE IN MY GARDEN SO IT SELFSEEDS AS WELL, BUT IT IS A BEAUTY I MUST ADMIT

TRICYRTIS HIRTUS, LOOKS LIKE AN ORCHID, VERY NICE FOR THE AUTUMN GARDEN, I WANT MORE OF THESE !

I BOUGHT SOME YELLOW CHRYSANTHEMUMS AND  LITTLE VIOLA’S TO BRIGHTEN MY FRONT DOOR

REMEMBER THIS WHITE BEGONIA ? IT IS STILL BLOOMING NICELY.

ROSA THE PILGRIMM

THE WHITE BLOOMS IN THE TREE IS A RUSSIAN VINE, IT WAS PLANTED TO COVER THE ROOF OF THE AVIARY BUT NOW IT CLIMBS IN OUR OAK TREE ! I LIKE IT !

REMEMBER  I TOLD YOU IN SPRING I PLANTED SOME DWARF CONIFERS IN MY FROND GARDEN ? WELL THEY WERE SO TINY THAT I DECIDED TO PUT SOME TAGETES INBETWEEN TO GIVE THE PATCH A BIT OF COLOUR, WELL THE TAGETES IS STILL BLOOMING LIKE MAD !

HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK AT THE DWARF CONIFERS, THEY DID WELL THIS SUMMER AND ADDED A BIT OF GROWTH, I NEVER THOUGHT THE TAGETES WOULD BECOME THIS BIG !

A CLOSE-UP OF MY BIG SUNFLOWER

VERBENA BONARIENSIS STILL IN BLOOM, I LOVE THIS PLANT AND SO DO THE BEE’S AND BUTTERFLIES

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST A FUCHSIA CUTTING, CUTE HEY !

Have a great day all, thanks for stopping by and enjoy your garden !
