AN EXPERIMENT

When I put my yucca in the garden in May it didn’t look so good, a lot of it’s leafs were dead so I could either trow it away or experiment with it and as I love to experiment I choose to cut off all the leafs and a bit of the trunk, I used something to cover the wounds so the trunks wouldn’t rot and I waited and waited and for a long time nothing happened but I know plants are very strong and sometimes need a lot of time to do what they have to do and after a few months I noticed new life, yeuhhh !!!! The leafs are tiny but it has many new shoots so I am happy I made the right choice.

SLOWLY SLIDING TOWARD AUTUMN

I don’t like it but it is true, the first signs of Autumn are visible in the garden and in the air, you can already smell it and the nights are almost cold. The leaves of the trees and shrubs are looking a bit tired, the sedums have buds who start to colour, the spiders ( those with the cross on their backs who are only visible late in Summer and in Autumn) are weaving their nets….I am not a fan of Autumn however beautiful it can be. We have had quite a bit of sun lately with showers now and again so everything has been growing like mad.

One of the fasted growers in my garden is the Russian vine(polygonum aubertii) over here we call it “brides veil” my husband uses this climber to give to his birds otherwise it would not have been in my garden, it is just too big, we have to cut it down every year in Spring otherwise it takes over the whole garden !!! But it is pretty and the flowers last for a very long time !

AN ORDINARY SUNDAY IN AUGUST

I cannot believe it is August already ! Lately we have had quite a bit of hot weather so everything is growing like mad, however some plants suffer from the heath. The fuchsia flowers and the roses don’t stay fresh for long and I can’t keep up watering all the pots. But I am not complaining as I love being outside, sitting on the terrace and looking at the garden.

The birds and the bees and the butterflies apparently love my garden, they are everywhere but they are very hard to catch on camera. But I am happy to have them in my garden and I love to see they like it.

EVENINGSUN.

Yesterday was a beautifull summersday and in the  evening while I was sitting on our terrace enjoying the last of the sun  I found the light so beautifull that I took my camera and made a few pictures.

SEDUM SPECABILE AND A FEW POTS WITH SEMPERVIVUM

CLOSE-UP OF THE BUDS OF THE SEDUM SPECTABILE

LYTHRIUM SALICARIA (CATSTAIL) IS A PLANT FOR WET SOIL  CLOSE TO A POND OR EVEN IN MUD BUT IT IS SO STRONG THAT I CAN KEEP IT IN A POT

A BAMBOO WIND GONG

MY YUCCA, GIVES MY GARDEN A LITTLE BIT OF THE TROPICS

AUCUBA JAPONICA, VERY STRONG EVERGREEN BUSH WITH NICE GREEN LEAFS COVERED IN YELLOW SPOTS. WHEN IT FREEZES IN WINTER THE LEAFS ARE HANGING DOWN  SO IT LOOKS AS IF THE BUSH IS VERY THIRSTY BUT AS SOON AS THE TEMP IS BACK ABOVE 0C° THE LEAFS ARE BACK TO NORMAL.

A PINK HYDRANGEA MACROPHYLLEA, I RECEIVED IT AS A GIFT IN SPRING AND IT WAS IN BLOOM FOR A LONG TIME, I PUT IT OUSIDE AFTER THE FROSTS AND IT HAS SINCE GROWN QUITE A BIT AND AS YOU CAN SEE IT IS ABOUT TO FLOWER AGAIN. I AM GOING TO PUT IT IN THE GARDEN IN AUTUMN.

MY LITTLE GARDEN HELPER INSISTED I TOOK A PICTURE OF HER TOO FOR MY BLOG, SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE WHITE BUT SHE RARELY IS !!!

ANEMONE JAPONICA WITH THE AUCUBA IN THE BACKGROUND AND AT THE BOTTOM YOU CAN SEE A FEW FLOWERS OF GERANIUM ANNE THOMPSON, THE IVY AND THE LITTLE SEDUM ARE USED AS GROUND COVER

ONE OF THE BIRDFEEDERS, IT’S FILLED WITH SUNFLOWERSEEDS, NORMALLY I MIX THE SUNFLOWERSEEDS WITH PEANUTS BUT I WAS OUT OF PEANUTS   SO I FILLED IT UP WITH SUNFLOWERSEEDS ONLY, THE BIRDS LOVE THE SEEDS, I ALSO USE FATBALLS THAT ARE MIXED WITH AL SORTS OF SEEDS. THE  PLANT YOU SEE IS A SELF SOWED SUNFLOWER, ONE OF THE SEEDS  FELL DOWN AND GOT THE CHANCE TO GERMINATE SO NOW I GIVE IT A CHANCE TO FLOWER.

Have a great day all and enjoy your garden !

UPDATE ON MY GARDEN.

Today, July 22nd, is the first real Sumerday we’ve had this year !! And it will be Summer till Saturday, then it will end with a big bang and lightning and lots of rain. As I am still recovering from my op this week I am going to enjoy every minute of this little Summer. I took some pictures today and yesterday for you to see.

MALVA, A FRIENDLY LITTLE FLOWER ON HIGH STEMS, SELFSOWING BUT CAN EASILY BE REMOVED WHERE IT IS NOT WANTED

HERE YOU CAN SEE PART OF THE GARDEN WITH THE POND, THE FENCE IS TEMPORARILY THERE UNTILL THE GRANDKIDS ARE OLD ENOUGH, YOU CAN SEE A CONIFER HEDGE AND OUR BIG OAK TREE, ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO A BIRD MUST HAVE DROPPED A FRUIT OF AN AMERICAN OAKTREE AND VOILA 30 YEARS LATER WE HAVE A NICE BIG TREE

CLEMATIS THE PRESIDENT, BLOOMING FOR THE 2ND TIME THIS YEAR

HERE IS ONE THAT IS MORE PINK, ALWAYS A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES

MY YUCCA IN A POT IN THE SUN, HE SUFFERED A LOT THIS WINTER AS I LEFT HIM  OUT IN THE GARDEN FOR TOO LONG BUT HE SURVIVED AND IS DOING WELL NOW I THINK

BUDS OF KIRENGOSHOMA, A JAPANESE PLANT, IT WILL GET BELLSHAPED YELLOW FLOWERS

FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA, A SMALL BUSH, COMPLETELY WINTERHARDY (UP TO AT LEAST -18C°) THE BUSH DIES DOWN IN WINTER AND NEW SHOOTS EMERGE IN SPRING, BLOOMS FROM JUNE TILL THE FIRST FROST

ANOTHER FUCHSIA WITH SMALL FLOWERS, I THINK IT’S A REAL CUTIE, I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S CALLED THE LABEL JUST SAID “FUCHSIA”
