BEAUTIFUL KENYA 3
And the journey goes on…
I DON’T HAVE TO INTRODUCE THIS ONE TO YOU, DO I ?
A TREE WITH BIRDS NESTS, YOU CAN SEE LITTLE WOVEN NESTS HANGING FROM THE BRANCHES AND SOME BIGGER NESTS ON THE BRANCHES
ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL TREE
THIS ANIMAL WAS CALLED GIRAFFE-NECKED ANTELOPE OR GERENUK
MORE BIRDS NESTS
One day we drove to a lake to see the thousands of flamingo’s, it was beautiful but the stench was something I’ll never forget !!! On the beach were death flamingo’s rotting away and also plenty of carcasses, on top the stench of their excrements….it was a smell I never experienced before and the heath made it all worse of course but the views were breathtaking (as well as the stench !!!)
THIS WAS LESS BEAUTIFUL

ART. YOU COULD BUY ALL THE ANIMALS YOU SAW ON SAFARI, IN WOOD OR IN STONE, VERY SMALL OR VERY LARGE,I WANTED A MONKEY IN WOOD BUT THAT WAS THE ONE ANIMAL THEY DID NOT MAKE, WHEN I ASKED WHY THEY SAID THAT MAKING MONKEYS BROUGHT BAD LUCK, BUT I KEPT LOOKING FOR A WOODEN MONKEY AND ON OUR LAST DAY I FOUND ONE, IT WAS NOT DISPLAYED LIKE THE OTHER ANIMALS BUT IT WAS HIDDEN IN A SHED AND WHEN SOMEONE HEARD I WAS LOOKING FOR A WOODEN MONKEY HE WENT TO A SHED ON THE BEACH AND GAVE IT TO ME, I WAS OVER THE MOON WITH IT !
AND HERE HE IS, MY KENYAN MONKEY
There is more to come in my next blog, thanks for stopping by !
Take care and have a great week !
INTRODUCING THE FLORA OF DJERBA, TUNISIA
In March we went to Djerba, a small island that belongs to Tunisia, it is a warm and very dry country, at least it is normally. Not when we there, it was really cold and very wet most of the time but we did get a bit of sun too, people there were pleased ofcourse as they love every drop they can get. There’s nothing you can do about the weather so we decided to make te best of it and we enjoyed it never the less.
Here are some pictures of the flora I found there.
THIS IS AN OPUNTIA, ONE WITHOUT THORNS, MAYBE THE ONLY ONE AS THEY ARE USUALLY CALLED PRICKLY PEARS.
A BEAUTIFULL TERRACOTA VASE
GAZANIA’S, WE CAN BUY THEM IN BELGIUM BUT THEY ONLY OPEN WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING SO OVER HERE THE FLOWERS ARE CLOSED MOST OF THE TIME, SO NO GAZANIA’S FOR ME
PALMTREE’S EVERYWHERE
THIS IS A BEAUTIFULL OPUNTIA MICRODASYS WITH YELLOW GLOCHIDES, DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW THAT WHEN YOU TOUCH THIS PLANT YOU GET INVISIBLE TINY LITTLE HOOKS IN YOU SKIN WHO ARE VERY PAINFULL AND VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE, THE PLANT LOOKS VERY CUDDLY DONT YOU THINK ? BUT I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, I ONCE HAD A AN OPUNTIA MICRODASYS YOU SEE !
THIS IS A SUCCULENT BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE SO I DON’T HAVE A NAME FOR IT
A CUTE AGAVE

THIS WORK OF ART IS A PIECE OF A PALMTREE TRUNK
AN UNKNOWN SUCCULENT FOR ME BUT LOOK AT THOSE LEAFS !
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FLORA BUT TO SHOW YOU HOW HOT IT CAN BE IN TUNISIA I WANT TO SHOW YOU A PIECE OF MOLTEN SAND FROM THE DESSERT, YOU CAN BUY THESE CLUMPS EVERYWHERE IN TUNISIA, SMALL PIECES AND HUGE ONES
AN ALOE I THINK
RIPE FRUITS ON TOP OF A THORNLESS OPUNTIA, IF ANYONE KNOWS THE NAME OF THIS OPUNTIA PLEASE TELL ME, OEPS NOW I SEE IT HAS A FEW THORNS
This is just a small part of the flora from Tunisia ofcourse. They have olive tree’s, apricots, almonds, grapes ,lots of succulents and cacti and lots of fresh vegetables. The hotels are nice and clean, the people are friendly and the food is delicious so we certainly will go back there.
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY AND READING MY BLOG
ANOTHER LOST DAY FOR THE GARDEN
It’s been raining for over 36 hours now so there is not much to tell about the garden, instead I am going to tell you about the flora and fauna of Kenya where we were on holliday a few years ago.
Kenya is paradise for those who love the birds and the bee’s , the flowers and the tree’s and last but not least ofcourse the big mamals. On vacation we are allways on the lookout for plants and animals whether it is in Belgium or abroad, my husband is a very keen birdlover where as I love everything about nature. The hotels we stayed in were awesome, they all had beautfull gardens and the rooms were cottages in the garden, the food was excellent !
